Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 page.  The Staff in Year 1 are Mrs Neild and Miss Barker in 1N and Mrs Foster (Monday & Tuesday), Mrs Gibbs (Wednesday-Friday) and  Mrs Hall in 1FG.

We have been looking forward to working with our new classes and starting off our Topic learning with the most exciting adventure.

Term 1 so far... We have read lots of different traditional tales and thought about all the characters in these stories. We sorted these characters into heroes and villains. We found The Wolf in the garden (who ended up being a good wolf) and this was a wonderful way of exploring characters and how they don't always have to follow stereotypes. We used the story of Hansel and Gretel and Julia Donaldson's 'Room on the Broom' to explore the character of the Witch. At the beginning of the second half term we had a note from the witch from Room on the Broom asking for help. How exciting! We were asked to help her by making a potion! We wrote some amazing lists of all the ingredients we used in our potions. Can you guess what might have been in them? Have a look at the pictures to see.

We used the Room on the Broom as a stimulus for making wands and puppets.  We can't wait to perform a puppet show for our friends in school.
