Governing Body

Parents

We are proud of our relationship with parents, families and everyone connected with school. This partnership is very important to us and we encourage you, wherever possible, to take an active part in your children’s learning. Turves Green Primary School was awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award in 2008. If you would like to become more involved with school activities, please speak to your children’s teacher. There are many ways in which you can support your children, including helping with reading, cooking, art or sharing any other special skills you might have. You can support the PTA or be a school governor.

We provide lots of opportunities for you to come into school to talk to staff, to keep you informed or to join in activities with your children.

  • Staff are available to talk to you at the beginning and end of each day. We are able to give you more time at the end of the day, rather than in the morning, when we are busy with the children
  • We hold termly parents’ consultation weeks where we offer a choice of appointments. Staff will discuss your child’s progress with you and agree targets for the coming term.
  • We hold an INSPIRE workshop for each class every year. We will invite you to come and join your child in an English or Maths lesson and find out how we teach important ideas.
  • As part of our curriculum work, you will be invited to events to share the work the children have been undertaking in class.
  • We invite you to come and have lunch with
    your children.
  • You are invited to come to our weekly ‘Well Done’ assemblies held on Thursdays to share in your child’s achievements.
  • Year group assemblies are held on Friday mornings during the Autumn and Summer terms.
  • We hold coffee afternoons in Reception, Year Two and Year Six.
  • We invite you to a Welcome Evening before your children start school and before they move from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two.
  • Each term we send you a diary of events and information about what each year group has achieved, the work they will be doing and how you can help at home.
  • Teachers write to you each term to tell you about the work that will be happening in class and how you can help.
  • English and Maths targets are sent home each term so you know what the children need to do to improve and how you can support them.
  • All the other letters and information are sent to you in monthly mailings. If your child is absent on the day the mailing is given out, we will post it to you.
  • Every half term we produce a newsletter which tells you about the work the children are doing, news and forthcoming events.

  • We can offer courses and placements for parents and other family members. The courses can be of general interest or lead to professional qualifications.
  • We use a parent hotline telephone service to keep you informed of last minute changes, especially around bad weather time.
  • We have a parent computer with free access to the internet and a printer.

How you can help your child in school

  • Make sure your child gets to school on time each day and attends regularly.
  • Talk to children about their school day
  • Make time to listen and ask about the things they have learnt during the day this is important for children of all ages.
  • Play with your children and help them to make the most of their leisure time.
  • Encourage your children to talk about what they have read in books, talked about with friends, heard on the radio or seen on television.
  • If you or your children are worried about anything, please let us know. There will always be someone to listen and we will always try to help.
  • It is really helpful if you can encourage your children to be happy at school, by taking an interest in all of their school work and by supporting their learning
    at home.
  • We set weekly homework. Please help your children with this and make sure that it is returned to school on time. A copy of our Homework Policy is available from the school office.

Most importantly, the Family Support Co-ordinator is a listening ear. Please feel free to come in and speak to her – she is based in the reception area.
