Before your child starts school
In the Autumn before your child starts school you will receive a booklet from the Birmingham Local Authority which tells you about all the primary schools. You will also receive a preference form. On the form you will be asked to write, in order, the schools you would like your child to go to. The Local Authority will then allocate the places and you will be told in early Spring. You are encouraged to visit your local schools before you make your decision. We hold an Open Day in November for everyone to come and look around our school to see what the children are doing and the excellent facilities we have.
Once you have made your choice and been given a place at Turves Green, members of school staff will offer you the opportunity to have a visit to meet you and your child at home. This is a really good way for you all to meet some of the people who will be working with your child. We will also visit your child at their nursery if they attend one.
You will also be invited to a ‘Welcome Evening’ when there is an opportunity to look around our school and to meet all the adults you will come into contact with during your child’s first year at school. This is a very informal social evening and we hope that this will be the beginning of regular contact between you and the school. A booklet containing useful information for new children and parents is given out at the schools Welcome Evening. |

Pre-school activity afternoons for the children are held in July before they start school in September.
We have a phased start for the children in September. They will gradually increase the time they spend in school in just over two weeks. We have found that this helps the children soon settle quickly and begin to enjoy their time in school.
School uniform and other items, such as book bags, can be ordered at the Welcome Evening or from Administration staff on reception before the end of the Summer Term.
Contact forms
Sometimes we need to be able to contact you or other named adults in case your child is ill, if there is an emergency or if we need to get a message to you. We ask you to complete a contact form with names, addresses and telephone numbers. We also need to know the name and address of your child’s doctor and other medical information. All this information is collected and stored securely under the Data Protection Act. Please tell us straight away if any of these contact details change, or if there are changes in personal circumstances which affect your child.
In an emergency, if we are unable to contact anyone named on the contact form, the Headteacher takes responsibility for any decisions that need to be made for the good of the child. |

Breakfast Club opens at 7.45am and is free for all children at present. The only charge made is for the breakfast food the children eat. There are activities the children can take part in and games they can play. There is no need to book a place at the club.
Children in the Early Years and Key Stage One come into school through the red doors at the front of the building by their classrooms.
Children in the Key Stage Two classes line up in the back playground and are brought into school by their teachers. At the end of the day the children line up in the school hall and leave the building through either the main doors at the front of the building or the grey doors at the side.
Children are expected to stay in school during the school day unless they need to attend an appointment and you have made suitable arrangements to collect them. Children will not be allowed to leave the premises without an authorisation slip issued by the receptionist.
